This course aligns with the nationally recognised qualification AVIY0028 – Operate remotely piloted aircraft in excluded category sub-2 kg operations and is delivered within a school environment. The intended outcome is for students to gain the skills and knowledge required to legally operate a sub-2 kg drone for commercial purposes under the CASA Excluded Category, including obtaining CASA Operator Accreditation as part of the training.
At any stage, students may choose to have their learning formally recognised by applying for the full nationally accredited qualification AVIY0028, for an additional fee starting from $95. The course consists of approximately 11 modules, including: Course Introduction, Public Liability Insurance, Flight Planning, Pre-flight Inspection, CASA Operator Accreditation, Take-off and Climb, In-flight RPAS Control, Emergency Management, Descent and Landing, Logbooks, and Examinations.

We provide all the material, which is a mixture of class workbooks, online materials, flight logbooks and assessment material. Knowledge tasks are completed online and assessment activities (e.g. flying drone) are documented in CASA approved documents and uploaded online as further evidence. The school has complete visibility when mentoring along with our own assessors for final sign off.

This qualification is relevant to individuals operating remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and national operating standards. Remote pilots operating at this level will apply advanced technical and non-technical knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy and judgement and will take limited responsibility in known and stable operational contexts within established regulatory parameters.

This qualification is intended for remote pilots who wish to enter the CRP role; those who are currently holding the position of, or acting in the position of CRP; those who are responsible for remote flight operations management within an organisation; or those looking to enhance their level of understanding of flight operations and operational risk.
Entry Requirements - Either hold a RePL or AVI30419 and AROC.
